AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY

ITEM SUMMARY:

Consider execution of agreement with Allen-Smith Consulting to prepare the City of Griffin’s FY2015 Community Development Block Grant application to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) in the amount of $8,000. Planning and Development Director Taurus Freeman will address.   Approved

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS OR CONCERNS:

The water and wastewater infrastructure in the CDBG FY2015 target area (Zone 7, and a portion of Zone 8) are in significant need of repair. Both systems have been in operation for over 75 years. The water mains repeatedly break and are significantly reduced in capacity due to pipe deterioration. Also, the sewer system leaks due to age. The proposed application includes the fifth of ten (10) zones of planned water and wastewater infrastructure improvements in north Griffin.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The fee for Allen-Smith Consulting to prepare the CDBG application is $8,000, which is budgeted in FY2015. The city’s FY2015 CDBG application will be for $500,000.00 in CDBG funds. Award of the CDBG would require the City of Griffin to match the grant with an amount to be determined after completion of the engineering report. Matching funds would be budgeted in FY2016 budget.
