AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY

ITEM SUMMARY:

Consider resolution in support of submitting an application for the Tourism Product Development Grant.    DDA Director Kenwin Hayes will address.   Approved

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS OR CONCERNS:

The Tourism Product Development Grant (TPD) is being offered by the Georgia Department of Economic Development. The TPD program is designed to financially support sustainable tourism development activities at the local level that: maintain and/or create jobs, attract tourists (visitors from outside of the community), and enhance the tourist’s experience. Staff will use the funds to purchase and install additional wayfinding signs in Downtown Griffin.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Approval of resolution to submit complete grant application by the July 31, 2014 deadline.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The maximum grant amount is $20,000 which must be matched 100% by applicant or may contain up to 40% in-kind services or materials. The FY15 budget already includes the purchase of six (6) wayfinding signs in Downtown. By applying and receiving this grant, staff estimates they will be able to purchase six (6) additional signs which were proposed to be purchased within the next three years as part of the on-going branding implementation.
