ITEM SUMMARY:

Consider an Intergovernmental Agreement with Spalding County for the purpose of creating a joint Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) for tourism.  Toussaint Kirk, Director of Planning and Development, will address.




SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS OR CONCERNS:

The Griffin-Spalding Business & Tourism Authority (GSBTA) Intergovernmental Agreement will create a joint authority with Spalding County to act as a DMO that will provide tourism opportunities for Griffin and Spalding County. The activities of the authority will be funded via hotel-motel dollars. GSBTA will be responsible for the following:

  1. To promote business, tourism, trade conventions for the City of Griffin and Spalding County.
  2. To study, investigate, and develop plans for improving business and tourism in the City and County and to implement such plans in order to attract businesses, visitors, and conventions to the Griffin/Spalding Community.
  3. To advise and recommend plans to the Board of Directors for the development of business and tourism.
  4. To otherwise promote public interest in the general improvement of business and tourism in the City and County.

Spalding County Commission previously approved the IGA



STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval.
