Consider purchase of Police K-9 from BlueStreak K-9 LLC, approve the use of State Asset Forfeiture funds for this purchase, and amend the budget accordingly. Police Chief Mike Yates will address.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS OR CONCERNS:

K-9 Argo is trained in Drug, Tracking, Obedience and Apprehension. This vendor, Blue Streak Canine, LLC, is the lowest priced of two vendors (Blue Streak Canine, LLC, and Detection Dogs of America, LLC) that meets all requirements and provides a quality product. The Blue Streak Canine contract includes training, whereas the Detection Dogs of America contract would have required another $2,400 for training beyond the contract amount.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Recommend approval.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

Cost for K-9 purchase and handler training is $8,500 to be paid from the State Asset Forfeiture account. There is a current balance of $106,007.28 in State Asset Forfeiture and $40,819.41 in the Federal Asset Forfeiture funds. A Budget Amendment is attached for expenditure increase to line item as follows:

210-3223-53-1600-0000 Tools & Small Equipment $ 8,500.00.
