ITEM SUMMARY:

Receive comments regarding a request to amend the Unified Development Code of Griffin at Article 7, Zoning Districts, Table 7.3 (Permitted Uses), to allow Group Homes for persons with disabilities in all zoning districts. Planning & Development Director, Toussaint Kirk to address.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS OR CONCERNS:

In recent months, accommodation of persons with disabilities has been a hot topic issue. In an attempt to offer a fair housing choice for those persons, the City of Griffin is amending the Unified Development Code to comply with the Department of Justice requirements to allow group homes for persons with disabilities to operate in all zoning districts. Further, occupancy will be based on the requirements set forth in International Building Code, International Residential Code and the Fire Department’s Life Safety Codes.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Planning and Development Staff recommends APPROVAL of this request.

Planning and Zoning Board recommended APPROVAL of this request.
