AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY

ITEM SUMMARY:

Consider Agreement between the City of Griffin and the Spalding County Board of Commissioners for two (2) Inmate Work Details for duties at the Shoal Creek Landfill and Oakhill Memorial Cemetery, in the amount equal to the salary and benefits of two (2) Correctional Officers. Central Services Director Phill Francis will address.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS OR CONCERNS:

These details are mission critical to the operations of the Landfill and Cemetery as grass and EPD mandated landfill operations need to be maintained. Officers are required for these details as the inmates to be assigned are medium security classed and by State Department of Corrections policies, must be supervised by a certified corrections officer. Attached agreement reflects approval by the Spalding County Board of Commissioners with appropriate signatures affixed. City of Griffin will pay the annual cost for each officer. These officers will supervise a detail of 6 (six) inmates at all times.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

$41,500 each budgeted FY 15/16 expenses in Landfill and Cemetery operating budgets.
