ITEM SUMMARY:

Consider approval of a request to amend the Unified Development Code, of the City of Griffin, Article 7, Table 7.3, Zoning Districts, to allow Consumer Fireworks Retail Sales Facilities, meeting the minimum standards of NFPA 1124 for new and existing buildings as a permitted use in the Planned Commercial District.” Toussaint Kirk, Director of Planning & Development will address.




SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS OR CONCERNS:

At the 2015 General Session, the General Assembly enacted a new law governing the possession, sale and use (explosion) of a class of fireworks, defined as "consumer fireworks", which will impact local governments.

 

Effective July 1, 2015, it will be legal for a person, age 18 and over, to legally buy, sell, possess, and use “consumer fireworks. Under the new law, one may use or explode or cause to be exploded any consumer fireworks on any day between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and Midnight; provided, however, that on January 1, July 3, July 4 and December 31, fireworks may also be legally discharged between the hours of Midnight and 2:00 a.m.
