ITEM SUMMARY:

Consider a Resolution making an appointment to the office of Judge of Municipal Court and approving compensation for said position. Resolution adopted to reappoint William G. Johnston, III as Municipal Court Judge on motion/second by Commissioners Morrow/Todd.


SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS OR CONCERNS:

Current Municipal Court Judge William G. Johnston, III, has offered his service and requested the opportunity to continue to serve in that capacity. Per the Charter of the City of Griffin, Sec. 3.5 Municipal Court Judge, there shall be appointed by the Commission a Judge of the Municipal Court, who shall serve at the pleasure of the Commission. Said Judge shall be a member of the State Bar of Georgia in good standing, having at least seven (7) years experience in the practice of law. The Commission shall fix the compensation for the office by ordinance or resolution. The Judge may be removed from office at any time, without cause or notice, upon the affirmative vote of at least four (4) members of the Commission.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

Municipal Court Judge's position is budgeted for $20,000 for FY 14-15.
